Creepy Storefront
Group Show
Exhibiting Artists:
Elsa Henderson
Maciej Makalowski
Lucas Recchione-Gentzsch
Kyle Haddad Welch
Zach Rose
August 13 2021
Finally opening its rollgate for the first exhibition at the space since the lease was signed in September 2020, Triggering DJ (Driving Prius Towards Me) Gallery is proud to present Creepy Storefront, a group show featuring works by five local and international artists. The works on view elicit a creepy synchronicity, having been curated with minimal visual crossover yet arching into a communal series that spans the aesthetic gap and restores harmony to a space which has remained hidden from sight for theduration ofthe pandemic, lest the lucky attendee happened to chance upon one ofTriggering DJ’s rare 3:45 to 4:00 am public viewing hours, which have been known to happen on mythogical occasion.
For its part, Creepy Storefront features one painting by Berlin-based artist Lucas Recchione-Gentzsch, three paintings by resident artist Kyle Haddad Welch who shares the storefront studio space with gallery founder Elsa Henderson, also showing three paintings and one installation in this assembly. To round out the occasion a film-cum-pomodoro by artist Zach Rose is included as well as an audio collaboration with Berlin-based musician and artist Maciej Makalowski, also known by his project moniker Dutch Fist or DJ Melania Trump. True to the spirit of the space, Creepy Storefront revels in its ability to overcome the strangeness of this year and recommit to prior objectives, with a future-leaning playfulness that beckons in brighter energies in the remaining months of the creepiest year to date, 2021.
